This is a very short story with a lot of mystery. I found two photos in a big box of my grandmother's that were labeled "Nelson Guilderoy Pruitt who raised Dillard Hazelrigg Clark (27 July 1847-12 Feb 1926) and one labeled "Marian Coleman Pruitt wife of Nelson Pruitt who raised Dillard Hazelrigg Clark (27 July 1847-12 Feb 1926)".

Dillard was my great-grandfather who fought in the Civil War for Kentucky at the age of 15, was a graduate of the class of West Point 1873 and served in the Army in the western US (Colorado, New Mexico), etc. He also served in World War I when he was in his 70's and is buried at Arlington Memorial Cemetery. I finally found his father's name was Benjamin from a passport application. But I cannot trace his family.

Nelson's son John was named on a West Point grade list as to whom the grades should be sent. And this is all I know about the folks who for some unknown reason raised my grandfather to be an outstanding young man. I wish I knew more!
